This article explains the differences between laser therapy and LED light therapy, to find which might be more suitable for you and develop a new business in the future.
Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a technique using low level/ cold laser or light emitting diodes (LEDs) to improve inflammation, accelerate wound healing, relieve pain in different clinical situations. The both of light therapy can be traced back to the 1990s, where it was first employed by NASA. But even before LEDs, photobiomodulation existed in laser form.
What indications are there?
Laser therapy is usually for the treatment of chronic pain, arthritis and a variety of sports injuries , and it may even have applications in neurorehabilitation, LED light therapy have clear benefits for wound care, burns and skin conditions, and the treatment of muscle damage and inflammation.
Why cause different indications?
Laser produces Coherent light which focus and penetrates the deep tissue area with same direction and same phase, LEDs do not. LED light spreads out to the area. Although the LED therapy products are focusing lens but cannot achieve the same properties as lasers. And the consumption is bigger a little than laser.
LED Light – one colour (monochromatic) and waves not in phase (non-coherent)
Laser – one colour (monochromatic) and waves in phase (coherent)
What light wavelength could be used for different symptoms?
Laser beams include 650nm, 808nm, 905nm for family and veterinary use. Like longer laser wavelength 1280nm is more using for professional center, hospital use.
650nm is usually promoting wound healing and muscle comforted. 808nm is penetrating deep injured tissue to mainly help to relieve chronic pain, anti-inflammation or arthritis.
LEDs can design with other colors wavelength such as 660nm red, 450nm blue, 490nm yellow, 530nm green, 850nm near infrared and so on.
There wavelenthes are separately supplying with different symptoms like below chart.
What’s the key to the treatment result?
Longer wavelength + bigger output power. Like above saying, the longer wavelength will penetrate deeper tissue area. When continue to increasing the light beam power, that means more energy will be absorbed by body, so that improve the treatment result. But one remarkable point is there are in the market class 3R, class 3b lasers for home use, and class 4 high power laser is for professional doctor in the center and hospital. Here there is a image to clearly clarify the difference.
Comparing to LEDs, the power intensity is easily increasing no matter who use it. The problem is the product heat disspation and budget. Based on the past experience, we’ve done the power intensity 10-160mW/cm2, adopting 5W LEDs to support.
Notion: When a LED light therapy device works with 660nm and 850nm lights at the same time, some more suppliers directly measure the power intensity according to 850nm only, this is not correct! We suggest to measure power output of each wavelength separately to get a correct data.
What is there good recommendation?
The laser therapy and LED light therapy is all popular in the market. We TheyPet are manufacturing and supplying both of our products to our customers. Here I am trying to present good recommendations for more options.
Vet-Cure model, according to the market requirements, we also developed equine/ canine pain relief laser therapy It should be one of most profitable units this year.
On the other hand, LED light therapy products are supplying well to the market. I would love to show up two well-accepted items for selection.
Finally, we will appreciate to any comments from anyone. Any queries or interest, directly speak to us.
